CYLINDER CHARGING PROTOCAL

Assure correct type of thread sealants are used;

NGS Valve/Cylinders are O"ring sealed to 30-75 ft./lb. with DOW 111 dielectric to prevent electrolysis.

NGT Valve/Cylinders are teflon tape sealed.

Prior to cylinder charging check all test dates and specifications;

Special Permit (Exemption) Numbers 49 CFR 173.23(c);

Aluminum Cylinders which had expired in 1982:

SP(E)6688, SP6576,    MUST BE REMOVED FROM SERVICE !

Aluminum Cylinders current as of 1982:  SP(E)6498, E7042, E8364, E8422, MUST BE OVER-STAMPED WITH THE CURRENT DESIGNATION 3AL FOR CONTINUED SERVICE !

 SP 12479 SERVICABLE AS IS, UNTIL EXPIRATION:  AUGUST 31, 2014

          6351 Alloy Aluminum Cylinders  require eddy current inspection at retests with a "VE" designation after the retest date stamp.

SP(E) 9791 SERVICABLE AS IS, UNTIL EXPIRATION:  JANUARY 31, 2015

SP(E) 12079 SERVICABLE AS IS, UNTIL EXPIRATION:  JANUARY 31, 2014

SP(E) 13483 SERVICABLE AS IS, UNTIL EXPIRATION:  NOVEMBER 30, 2014 

SP(E) 13488 SERVICABLE AS IS, UNTIL EXPIRATION:  APRIL 30, 2014  

SP(E) 14157 SERVICABLE AS IS, UNTIL EXPIRATION:  FEBRUARY 28, 2015

Compressed Gas "Air" Service in Specification Cylinder as Follows:

49 CFR 173.302a(a)(1);    DOT 3,   3A,   3AA,   3AL

CFR 173.301A(C);    The pressure in a Cylinder at 21 C (70F) degrees may NOT  exceed the service pressure for which the cylinder is marked or designated...

Recommened Charging Rate for Air Service is;  300 - 600 psi / minute. 

 Inspect Cylinders for Leaks During and After Charging.
